Even though we are months away from the launch of the iPhone 12, multiple rumors have been circulating about the phone already. So, let us dive in and discuss all the rumors today.
iPhone 12 will feature major updates, possibly introducing a new design that has not been updated since iPhone X was released in 2017. Rumors suggest that four new iPhones 12 will be coming with different display sizes, with an upgraded iPhone SE 2 also releasing.
Ever since Apple released iPhone 8 and X simultaneously, the naming scheme has become quite confusing. Before Apple used to do a numerical increase followed by the “s” version. This year Apple released iPhone 11, so based on its previous naming practice the 2020 iPhone should be iPhone 11s. However, it has been a while since the design of the iPhone was updated. With so many rumors circulating about the design, the size, and the numerous new features, the 2020 iPhone will most likely be called the iPhone 12.

Design and Display Screen
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, The Most Accurate Apple Analyst in the World, iPhone 12 will have a new design with a metal frame that is similar to the frame of the iPhone 4.
All of the devices may come equipped with OLED displays next year, with Apple taking away LCDs for its iPhone 12 lineup. However, iPhone SE 2, Apple’s budget-friendly phone, will probably feature an LCD screen for a lower cost.
TrueDepth Camera System and Touch ID
Ming believes that at least one iPhone will have a smaller front camera lens. This will provide an improved screen to bezel ratio, finally resulting in a smaller notch at the front. Credit Suisse’s analyst has said that Apple will introduce at least one iPhone in 2020 that has no notch or Face ID. Instead, Apple will use an in-display fingerprint sensor. Ming also believes that Apple is working on an iPhone that has both Face ID and an in-display fingerprint.
Size, Connectivity, and Release Date
So far, rumors suggest that we will see a 5.4-inch iPhone, a 6.7-inch iPhone, and two 6.1-inch iPhones (Pro and Max).
According to Ming, all of the iPhones are expected to use 5G technology. All four iPhones 12 will have Qualcomm’s X55 5G modem chip.
Like the previous releases, Apple is expected to release the iPhone 12 in September of 2020.
Summary of iPhone 12 Rumors
In conclusion, if Ming’s predictions are correct then we can expect the following iPhone lineup in 2020:
- 4.7-inch iPhone SE 2: LCD display, single-lens rear camera, no 5G support
- 5.4-inch iPhone 12: OLED display, dual-lens rear camera, 5G support
- 6.1-inch iPhone 12: OLED display, dual-lens rear camera, 5G support
- 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro: OLED display, triple-lens rear camera, 5G support
- 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max: OLED display, triple-lens rear camera, 5G support
