Unbelievably, it has been two years since Google had released its Chromecast Ultra streaming device dongle. Now again, we’re expecting a new version from Google of a dongle. This dongle is rumoured to run Android TV and along with that it also has a dedicated remote. The remote along with the dongle will help it to better compete with the Roku and Amazon Fire TV. It is so because both of these dongles have dedicated remote controls that make them more popular among users. To be honest, I was expecting that the Google dongle might be unveiled at the Google I/O but unluckily, due to COVID-19, the event got cancelled. And also, the Android 11 announcement has been delayed for the time being due to the ongoing US protests. However, the images of Android TV dongle were leaked by renders XDA developers.
Android TV Dongle named Sabrina
The leaked Android Tv dongle is named “Sabrina”. It has a design similar to a pebble and it comes in three colours; Black, White, and Pink. Sabrina seems to be a bit taller than the existing Chromecast Ultra and there’s a big “G” branding on the device. The device named Sabrina is allegedly powered by an Amlogic chipset. It’ll come with support for Dolby Audio. While some other reports suggest that the device will be powered by Nest chipset. Being said, with what the device will be powered is still unknown.
Now talking about the remote control that comes along with the dongle. From the images, the design of the remote seems to be quite similar to a Daydream View. At the top, it is a circular D-pad and there are six buttons on the remote control that is – Back, Assistant, Home, Star/Favourite, Play/Pause, and Volume Mute. The Favourite button in the remote will be very useful if the UI of the Android TV in the promotional stills is real. Apart from this, there is ring-based navigation on the top of the remote.
Revamped UI by Google
Another interesting detail apart from the dongle and remote control is the renovation of the Android TV interface based on the content. According to some reports, the name of the TV could be changed from Android TV to Google TV, but that is still early to say at the moment. In the leaked images, also can be seen that there is a search field present on the left-top corner on the software of the home screen. There are also other options seen on the screen as For you, Movies, TV, Live, Apps, and My Library. This layout is quite similar to the already existing layout of PlayStore on Android TV.
