Snapdragon 865 CPU – A Qualcomm’s new Monster Chip

Snapdragon is a suite of System on chip (SoC) semiconductor products for mobile devices designed and marketed by Qualcomm Technologies Inc. Chipmaker Qualcomm is uniting work and pleasure once again and has scheduled Snapdragon Tech Summit to occur on 3-5 December 2019 in Maui, Hawaii.More astoundingly, this is the event where the San Diego- based company usually reveals its latest chipset and now it is the time for Snapdragon 865.

The chip will enter mass production in February 2020, following the Snapdragon 865 launch next month. The luxury Chinese brand 8848 has already announced Titanium M6 5G- a Snapdragon 865 fuelled phone, while this chipset will support most of the Android flagship phones in 2020.

Basic Information Related To Snapdragon 865:

The details related to Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 are scarce. We expect that the chip will be built on Samsung’s 7nm EUV based fabrication process which, the TSMC did not use since the times of Snapdragon 820 and 835. It seems like Samsung leaves TSMC behind when it comes to thermal performance and efficiency. But still, according to a previous benchmarking leak, the new 7nm process won’t be beneficial in increasing the Snapdragon’s performance. This is so because the upcoming silicon fails to outperform the scores obtained by Apple’s A13 Bionic running in the latest iPhone11 range.

During the launch, we expect to see that Qualcomm will release two versions of the chip; one will naively support 5G while the other will not have Snapdragon X55 modem built-in. Both versions are apparently codenamed as ‘Kona’ and ‘Huracan’. The non-5G version will be less expensive intends to reach markets where the 5G hasn’t gone live yet. Last year’s Snapdragon 855 and Snapdragon 855 plus’ Little CPU architecture will be the same but the Snapdragon 865 will have custom cores based on the latest Cortex-A77. The silicon will seemingly get a new Adreno GPU and is also anticipated to support the LPDDR5 RAM standard.
